As part of the project activities, the structure and functioning of this new system, called EDUCA@SSSH, were defined and a catalogue of courses was created covering all the key areas where training is required (Basic trade union education programme).
In the second phase of the project, a group of 18 selected specialists from the UATUC and affiliated unions (two for each of the proposed seminars) received intensive training in the methodology of adult education via a ‘train the trainer’ programme, lasting six days, and each pair of trainers carried out one of the prepared courses (between 10 May and 14 July 2016). Ultimately, a total of 15 courses were held, for groups of 20 to 25 participants. Materials for the participants and a manual on the methodology of trade union training were prepared for the implementation of ten courses on the most important topics.
In order to provide the infrastructure for the new education system, the seminar room in the Workers’ House (Hall 226) was renovated and equipped, a new section dedicated to education was added to the existing UATUC website (www.educa.sssh.hr) and a computer database was created to monitor the functioning of the system itself (records of trainers’ work, courses conducted, participants and the results of evaluation). The project ended with an international conference on the social role of trade union training at which the project results were presented to the public and interested stakeholders.
The greatest value of this project is that it facilitated the establishment of EDUCA@SSSH which, after the completion of the project, has continued to function regularly and develop new courses in accordance with both the need and the potential.
The project was implemented by the Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (UATUC) and the project partners were the Metal Workers Trade Union of Croatia – Industrial Trade Union (SMH-IS), the Trade Union of the Construction Industry of Croatia (SGH), the Trade Union of Tourism and Services of Croatia (STUH), the Autonomous Trade Union of Workers in the Power Industry, Chemistry and Non-metal Industry of Croatia (EKN) and the Commercial Trade Union of Croatia (STH).
The total value of the project was HRK 1,797,282.11 and it was financed entirely by the European Union from the European Social Fund. The project duration was 12 months and it was implemented in the period between 27 July 2015 and 26 July 2016.
