Social policy

Social policy encompasses all those measures that affect the rights and opportunities of citizens to meet their life’s needs including work, health, education and training, security and general wellbeing.

The UATUC advocates the consistent implementation of constitutional provisions indicating Croatia as a welfare state; that is, the social development of Croatia as a considerate, fair and solidaristic society, based on the universal values of solidarity and equality.

We stand for public policies aiming to reduce inequality in income and wealth, as well as in access to education, healthcare and other social services.

Social policy must, among other things, be used to fight poverty, affirm the social value of work and solidarity, and encourage and empower citizens to participate in shaping public policies.
Social benefits should be sufficient and better targeted on those who really need them. We are therefore committed to the establishment of a transparent social assistance system, as well as the harmonisation (indexation) of social benefits in accordance with an objective criterion, such as the growth in wages, instead of the current arbitrary determination.
