Economic policy

Without a successful economy, there are no safe and well-paid jobs.

Economic policy led by the state must ensure that the economy works for the benefit of all workers and citizens, not just the owners of capital.

The UATUC advocates an economic policy based on a social market economy, which balances work and capital, as well as on the principles of sustainable development.

Croatia still lacks a vision and a long-term economic development strategy which would define development sectors; determine the measures that would strengthen the competitiveness of the Croatian economy in the global market; ensure the better utilisation of natural resources and their preservation as a public good; and promote and encourage the use of renewable energy sources and new clean technologies.
We advocate a fair tax system that will tax assets and surplus profits more, and work and consumption less, while strengthening the principle that the taxation of income and assets must be made on a progressive basis.
We stand for the continuing maintenance of the minimum wage at a level of 50 per cent of the mean wage and 60 per cent of the median; and for a determined fight against all forms of undeclared work.

We oppose the privatisation of natural resources, key public services and strategic infrastructure resources. Companies supplying public services should remain in public ownership and their management must be depoliticised.
