Western Balkans trade unions and EU integration

Zagreb, 17 April 2013 – A four-day workshop on social dialogue and labour law was held in Zagreb from 17 to 20 April, as the first of a cycle of workshops which will be held in 2013 and 2014 within the EU-funded project on the ETUC initiative to support the trade union organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo, participating in the Regional Trade Union Council Solidarnost, to achieve European standards.

The project builds on the local expertise of the national trade union confederations – UATUC and ZSSS – which have recently participated in the process of harmonization of their national legislation with the EU acquis as part of the EU accession negotiations. The exchange of information and knowledge within the project should enable the organizations to play their role in the European integration process as relevant partners of the respective governments and the EU Commission. The aim of these regional workshops is to give participants the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the EU policies and programmes related to the topics of social dialogue and labour law with a special focus on the state of affairs of the integration process in their respective countries, occupational safety and health, single market, and others.
